Definition The rule by which a T-100 roll was re-punched for the American Welte-Mignon (Licensee). The commands keep their words: the Licensee reads the T-100's lock-and-cancel coding, one perforation setting a function and a second cancelling it, which is what separates it from the green system rather than the track count (Phillips 2016, Table 4.3). They are laid out in the same order on a narrower bar of 98 positions at nine to the inch, without the two motor tracks, so that the note block and the treble valves sit two positions lower (Hagmann, pp. 40 f.; Phillips 2016, p. 123). The notes stand at their pitch. The paper is narrower and was cut for a slower speed, so the same performance runs a different length.

Definition The rule by which a T-100 roll was re-punched for the Welte-Mignon T-98 (green). The notes stand at their pitch, on the middle 80 of the system's 88 positions, which is the T-100's compass. The expression has to be re-spelled: the T-98 holds a function for as long as one perforation lasts where the T-100 latches it on with one perforation and cancels it with a second (Hagmann, pp. 89 f. and 100–103), so each pair of the T-100 becomes a single perforation running from the one to the other. The re-cut also puts in the T-98's own sforzando-piano command, which the T-100 has no word for, to lower the dynamics. The motor tracks fall away, and the rewind is driven by a long perforation on the bass sforzando-piano line rather than by a valve of its own. Lawson (The Pianola Journal 20, 2009, p. 26) reports that the name Kähle stands on some of the second master rolls at USC as the man who 'corrected' them for this system, and that part of the work was to re-lay the pedal tracks so that no perforation grew long enough to weaken the paper.
